YAHOO!!

Back in June I applied for all the scholarships I could find that would help me with the costs that come along with the internship…. AND today I got the wonderful news that the Hinckley Institute of Politics has awarded me a scholarship!!!!!! I am VERY appreciative of the Hinckley Institute! This scholarship will help me a great deal.

Passport, Apartment, Car, and Visa!

I had no idea how much you have to do to travel outside of the US. I feel like I am taking an upper division, 4 credit hour course, trying to prepare. I have gotten a lot done and almost ready.
Passport... Check!
I got my car…. Isn’t it cute?
Apartment
The cool thing about this apartment is it is walking distance from the beach!!!! AND it’s in a hotel, can you say…. Room service!!!

Notice the awesome purple carpet

And the confusing visa…
  • letter of invitation from the DA
  •  letter from the Hinckley Institute
  • flight itinerary
  • visa application
  • shots... ouch!
  • And the list goes on and on
Almost there…

Blog Time!

Welcome to my new blog!
If you haven’t heard already, I have recently accepted a position as an intern for a political party in South Africa. The political party is called the Democratic Alliance (DA), you can visit the following website for more details, www.da.org.za.
I am in my last year at the University of Utah fulfilling degrees in International Studies and Business Administration. For my International Studies degree, a requirement is to visit and study another country. I was nervous and hesitant finding somewhere to go and out of nowhere my good friend Brandon Merrill told me he found and was accepted an internship with the DA. I immediately went to my advisor to see if they would accept my proposal to apply for an internship with the DA. My advisor gave me clearance and the next step was to check with the Hinckley Institute or Study Abroad program to see if they would sponsor my adventure. Crossing my fingers I scheduled an appointment with the international Hinckley Institute advisor… I handed her my proposal and from there I was sponsored.
I will be leaving for South Africa on August 23rd and will be there until December 19th. This is my first time living away from home AND traveling outside of the country… I am in for a treat but am beyond excited. I am flying into Johannesburg and living in the beautiful Cape Town, South Africa.
I plan on keeping everyone updated on all my adventures and is beginning my countdown…
47 days until I leave to South Africa!
